Audio Transfer

Audio Transfer Service

Audio Reel transferWe can transfer your audio recordings from Vinyl Records, Audio Reels, Audio Cassettes, MiniDiscs and D.A.T Digital Audio Tapes. Our transfer process involves using well maintained and serviced audio equipment which is connected directly to the computer to achieve the highest quality transfer possible. We offer transfer to Compact Disc, MP3, Wav or any other file format you require, for file transfer you can supply a USB drive alternatively we can supply one for an additional charge, we also offer a direct download service to enable you to download your files directly.

Vinyl Transfer (33,45 & 78)For transferring your vinyl records we use an Ion Profile Pro which is capable of transferring all three speeds 33, 45 and 78, when transferring your 78rpm records we use a special stylus designed for playing only 78 records. When transferring your vinyl we capture the audio at CD quality which is 16 bit 44.1 kHz however if you require a higher bitrate or frequency then please let us know as we can capture up 32 bit 96 kHz. We will also filter out the background cracks and pops from your record making it sound clearer however we won’t be able to remove it completely.

Audio Cassette TransferWe use a Technics RS-BX601 cassette deck to transfer your audio cassettes to our computer, we capture the audio at CD quality which is 16 bit 44.1 kHz however if you require a higher bitrate or frequency then please let us know as we can capture up 32 bit 96 kHz. We will also filter out the background hiss from your audio cassette making it sound clearer however we won’t be able to remove it completely.

When transferring MiniDMiniDisc Transferiscs we use a Sony MDS-JE330 minidisc deck which is connected using the optical digital connection and captured at 24 bit 48KHz however if you require a higher bitrate or frequency then please let us know as we can capture up 32 bit 96 kHz. Normally MiniDiscs don’t contain background noise however if your recording has background hiss, crackle or pops we will filter as much of it out as possible.

DAT TransferWhen transferring D.A.T or Digital Audio Tapes we use a Sony DTC-750 deck which is connected via an optical digital cable connected using the optical digital connection and captured at 24 bit 48KHz however if you require a higher bitrate or frequency then please let us know as we can capture up 32 bit 96 kHz.D.A.T tapes are normally used in recording studios or for live recordings as such generally don’t require noise filtering however this can be performed on request.

Audio ReelIn addition to transferring the new formats, we can also transfer those old quarter-inch Audio Tape Reels, we use a Philips 4407 open reel tape recorder. Old reels could be recorded at three different speeds however that is not a problem for us as we can play reels recorded at all three speeds. Out of all the formats we transfer reels tend to have the most noise due to the technology at the time, so like the other services, we will filter out as much of the noise as possible without affecting the quality of the recording. If required we will also fit new leader tape as a lot of the time the reels we receive don’t have any, all this is included in the cost of transfer meaning there are no hidden charges.

MP3When encoding MP3 files we will only use high bit rates, our default bitrate for mp3 files is 320kbit/s at 44.1 kHz. This will give you as close to CD quality as possible while keeping your file size down, if you prefer a lower bitrate then please let us know as we will be happy to lower it for you. With WAV files these are uncompressed and match the quality of compact disc, when requesting disc this is the format we use to save the files before recording your disc. We are happy to use other file formats such as OGG AIIF which is Apple’s equivalent to WAV files on PC.
